What are amniotic stem cells?
Amniotic stem cells are cells derived from the amniotic sac that have the potential to become any one of a number of different cells, such as skin, blood, or bone cells. An injection of amniotic stem cells may be useful in treating tissue voids, defects, and localized areas of inflammation.
Amniotic stem cell injections are available in Phoenix, Mesa, and Tempe, AZ through providers at Hedley Orthopaedic Institute. (Note: Amniotic stem cell therapy is different from controversy-charged embryonic stem cell therapy. Here’s a quick read about the difference between the two.)
What conditions can amniotic stem cell injections treat?
Amniotic stem cell therapy may be useful in treating pain associated with knee osteoarthritis, rotator cuff tendonitis, degenerative arthritis, and Achilles tendonitis – among other conditions. This therapy offers several benefits:
- Steroid-free. Naturally occurring anti-inflammatory agents.
- Injections contain hyaluronic acid (for lubricating cartilage and stimulating cartilage growth).
- Contains growth factors.
- No threat of patient rejection.
- High concentration of stem cells.
Is there a brand or manufacturer you use for stem cell injections?
Yes. At Hedley Orthopaedic Institute (with locations in Phoenix, Mesa, and Tempe, AZ), providers use BioDFactor® Viable Tissue Matrix for providing amniotic stem cell therapy. BioDFactor® Viable Tissue Matrix is a “cryopreserved allograft derived from the human placental tissues developed for use as a wound covering in the treatment of localized tissue defects or areas of inflammation,” states BioD.
In essence, this “tissue matrix” is derived from healthy, livedonors that are pre-screened during pregnancy and selected according to BioD’s rigorous screening process. All placental-derived allografts are recovered using aseptic techniques, processed in a timely manner (using the company’s patent-pending CryoPrime processing technique), and stored to maximize shelf life.
One reason our team at Hedley Orthopaedic Institute uses BioDFactor® Viable Tissue Matrix is that the company’s protocols and procedures “… meet or exceed all applicable industry standards for the use of human cellular and tissue-based products.”
